Munich-based Hansen Sicherheitstechnik AG specialises in the development, production and maintenance of explosion-proof electrical systems for underground mines. These systems are critical to mine safety, reducing the risk of explosions caused by flammable gases or coal dust. Products include spark-free transformers, switches, lights, loudspeakers and computers.
Mines play a vital role in supplying basic raw materials such as coal and ore. In these hazardous environments, Hansen’s explosion-proof technology is essential to worker safety; its robust, reliable systems make it possible to work even in the most demanding and dangerous areas.
Since its founding in 1972, Hansen Sicherheitstechnik has steadily expanded its market presence, with major steps after the opening of Eastern Europe and later expansion into markets such as South Africa and China – underlining its role as a leading provider of safety technology to the mining industry.
In 1991, Dreyer acquired a 25% stake in Hansen as managing shareholder and drove its expansion and technological development. In 2005, together with Invest AG of Upper Austria, Dreyer completed a management buy-out and acquired 100% of the shares, before listing the company on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2006. In 2007, Dreyer sold its entire stake to the mining equipment group Kopex, marking Hansen’s transition into a larger industrial group.
